Black and White by Strawberry-Bamboo Black and White by Strawberry-Bamboo
This is has been a long time coming, I'm hoping to enter this into an contest hosted by ~honoofairy on her website: [link] .
She's a bit of a different style(?) to what I normally do, I usually have a lot of folds and detail in the clothing but I thought I'd go for a more flowed clothing approach. I think it worked quite well though I did want like the whole kimono thing with the mass patterns on the robe tails but I stuck with the obi and the sash being detailed.
The headpiece is actually from my novel, it's a princess crown for a particular race featured but I never got round to putting it actually on the person it belongs to... I haven't even done artwork for them or conceptual pieces but that will change :D!

Just need to actually enter it now!

Program:MS Paint
Time: 7 hours (been on and off thanks to hospital visits, damn youuuuu)
Base: :iconphansmatic:

Daily Deviation

Given 2013-02-18
Black and White by ~Strawberry-Bamboo has a soft palette with colors that harmonize with each other. The detail of this doll is gorgeous, down to every last line of shading in the braid. ( Suggested by BlackfyreValyrian and Featured by IridescentStardust )

Yeah, I can sorta shade in art on paper, but i usually do sortof cartoon-esque doodles, so lol no. And even if i did ddo some realism, my scanner sucks._.

I started out with cartoon-like doodles then as I did more and more I added more realistic features like the nose and eyes. So I would definitely say practice, you eventually notice shapes or how things appear and can recreate them.

I see what you're saying.I guess I've done some of that since I first started doodling all over my school notebooks. (In about 2nd grade) I've improved a lot since then, but then I go see these AMAZING artists on deviantart, and I'm just like O.o
I had art as an elective last year, and the actual classes taught me things, but didn't really improve DRAWING skills.(Other than learning to shade with pencils by rubbing it with your finger xD) But, when I was done with my assignments, my teacher let us draw what we wanted, and I usually just experimented. I'd do something weird on accident, and realize "hey, that looks sorta good." And adapt it to my 'style'.

I thought the same when I first came on deviantArt... All these awesome artists and such but I found out if I kept practicing and learning that I slowly caught up. In fact within the 2 years I actually did artwork, I've noticed that I can try to be on par with the super duper ones but the only thing stopping me, was myself. So really, I urge you not to wait around but do more and more because you will progress even if you don't see it at the time!!

There's no such thing as spending too long on art!
Art is art, no matter how long you take or how different it is!

I guess your right :D. Though there are some pieces of mine where I literally took a year just to get round to finishing which is slightly naughty because it takes a few hours to complete but months to motivate myself to fo it lol.
